What's up, producer?

This is Week 49 of the year 2024.

Using plate reverb on hi-hats is a great way to create a sense of space for your groove and give it context.

When you're working with samplers—whether hardware or software—you don’t always want to apply the same reverb to every element of your hi-hat group. Instead, having just one element carry this spatial information often keeps things cleaner while still doing the job.

It makes mixing easier, and if the reverb tail has some grit, it adds texture and character!

That’s why I created this set of hi-hats processed through a Lexicon MX200 multi-effects unit which I owned at that time.

Since 2019, this pack has been my trusty companion, and now I'm sharing it with you. My personal favorites are the mono hats, which work perfectly on the offbeat between those pounding kick drums.

This pack features 2x 28 samples in both mono and stereo formats, ranging from classic 909 sounds to unique noise hits and acoustic samples.

Feel free to shorten the reverb tail to your liking, aiming for a "boxy" roll-off that gives you that classic 80s gated reverb vibe.

Here's what I mean:

Left is the sample as it is, and right is how I would shorten and play with the tail length till it fits my groove. Experiment with even shorter and different fade-out shapes.
